This CASPER widget is the first widget you will see after the title display
disappears. This is the main control widget for launching the various tools
available within CASPER, and for controlling functionality common to all
tools, such as loading/unloading of SPICE Kernels, etc.
There are three main components to the CASPER widget - a menu bar across
the top, a tool button area below that and a status message widget at the
bottom.
-
Menu Items
-
Print Setup...: This option creates the Printer
Setup Widget which allows the operator to select the printer options
for printing a plot.
-
Quit: Quit CASPER will shut down the current CASPER session and
take you back to the IDL/CASPER prompt. If there is data on the current
plot, then you will be asked whether you wish to save or discard it. You
will also be prompted to make sure that you really wanted to exit from
the current CASPER session.
-
Utilities Menu
-
Preferences...: Creates the Color
Setup widget for changing the CASPER color scheme.
-
Display Text File...: Creates the Text File Display widget.
-
View PMI File...: Creates the CASPER
Physical Model Interface tool by which you may examine previously created
PMI files.
-
SPICE Error Reporting: Turns SPICE error reporting ON or
OFF
as indicated by the flag after the menu item. When ON, error messages from
the SPICE routines are displayed in the shell from which CASPER was started.
-
Save Defaults...: Saves loaded tour file, loaded history buffer,
and other settings as defaults.
-
SP Kernel Tools
-
Load Tour Kernel...: The user must load a tour kernel in order
to begin working in CASPER. This opens the Load Tour Kernel widget.
-
Change Tour Kernel...: Allows the user to change the currently loaded
tour via a Pickfile
Widget. Because changing the tour involves shutting down all currently
open tools, the user is prompted to make sure that this action was not
accidently selected. The user is also prompted to save any modules currently
in memory before the tools are shut down.
-
View SP Kernel...: Creates the SPK
Viewer Widget with which you can examine the internals of any SP kernel
file.
-
Help
-
Context Sensitive Help: Turns ON / OFF the context sensitive help
function. Moving the pointer over the CASPER widgets brings up help information
on their function in the Help Display window.
-
General Help: Allows the user to choose to display a help
file on general menus throughout CASPER.
-
Command History...:Creates the Command History widget showing the
commands that the user has issued so far.
-
Status...:Creates the Status Display widget showing the current
status of the CASPER tool.
-
About CASPER...:Creates a widget with some CASPER background information.
-
Tool Control Buttons
These buttons are used to open the main CASPER tools. Clicking on the button
for a specific tool means that if the tool widget does not currently exist,
then it is created, or if the tool widget has been iconized, then it is
restored.
To destroy a tool widget, you must select the exit menu item from the
File menu for that tool.
