Above, the impactor is seen lying on the target surface in a near edge-on view, and in the mirror which will provide a direct view of the impact. A black on white background grid has been used on the bottom of the IBS here. All lighting is from a set of 20 high intensity LEDs. Hot spots from the LEDs are visible as reflections near the edges of the mirror.

In this view, ejected powder is visible against a white on black background grid. Hot spots have been reduced by lightly sanding the tops of the LEDs to reduce their focusing effect. More even lighting is achieved.
