Terra Bagga Reflections

Group One

Like:
-Engages students to think about the Earth as a magnet
-Might be a good spring-board into more in-depth discussion about inner core/outer core and why magnetic fields are important to life

Improvements:
-Emphasize the correct labeling of magnetometer
i.e. compass
-Use this as a discovery activity for Earth science
-Use in conjunction with magnets and compass
-Data sheet should be more "analyze and conclude"

Group Two

Implementation/Directions:
-Write name on "Geo" South
-Labeling "N" on magnetometer—attract to North or opposite attract—Just Be Consistent!
-Battery centered?
-Shape of magnetic field difficult

Extension:
-Rotate/show meaning of geography, N and S

Group Three

Positives:
-Magnetic orientation versus geography
-Reinforces latitude and longitude
-Magnetic field generated from within a planet
-Good bridge to fact that some other planets lack magnetosphere

Negatives:
-Complicated directions for some audiences

Group Four

Extension/Application:
-Cross curricular-students map Earth in Solar System
-Students make 3D map of magnetic field
-Use magneprobe-use clay

What's Cool:
-Compare geographic versus magnetic pole

Suggestions:
-Revise directions (example: bags)
-Review vocab
-How to center magnet
-Do in partners
