Lesson 2, Activity 2
Introduction to Density Reflection
Group 1
Learning Goals: define and calculate density
Prior Knowledge: scientific notation, sig figs in measurements, how to use a graduated cylinder, meniscus, calibration techniques, collect/record data in lab write-up
Misconceptions: confusing size and mass for density (i.e. heavier objects are denser), shape affects density, mass versus weight
Previous Activity: "Meet the Planets"
Following Activity: "Planetary Density Activity", Day 2: Differentiation of Liquids
Highlight Activity: discovery activity for mass, volume, and density, determine densities of minerals and extrapolate to planets, minerals versus rocks
Teacher/Learner Viewpoints: need to also calculate rock densities, "disconnect" between homework and lesson 2 (lesson 1?), good review of scientific notation
