This position is integral to the research program and will be an active participant in assuring that the scientific goals will be met.

Prototype Machinist works from engineering drawings with a working knowledge of GD&T standards. Primary responsibility will be performing skilled machining tasks to fabricate small scale (fastener size 00's to 10's) complex aerospace structures, mechanisms, and opto-mechanical instrumentation for application in vacuum and space flight environments.

The data of interest involve Pioneer Venus, Galileo, Messenger and Venus Express observations of Venus; and Cassini observations of Enceladus and Titan. LASP's Solar Influences group has an opening for a graduate student to work on the physical modeling of the solar radiation that is carried by the Solar Influences group. The selected person will have a broad interest in the solar radiation and its effects on Earth, as well as a specific interest on the physical processes that produce and transmit electromagnetic radiation in the Sun and Earth upper atmosphere.

Mechanical Engineering Student Support

The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) is a world-renowned space science research institute at the University of Colorado at Boulder. In the engineering division, professional engineers and mentored students work closely with scientists in designing and building space flight hardware.

LASP's Mechanical Engineering Department is looking for an undergraduate student to create SolidWorks fabrication drawings of space-flight hardware and ground support equipment for NASA flight programs as well as fabrication assembly instructions and test procedures for mechanism testing. The ideal candidate is an undergraduate student who is at least 2 years away from graduation in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering. This position requires a minimum 3.3 GPA and CAD experience. The time commitment is a minimum of 10 hrs/week during school and full time during the summer.
