LASP is seeking an experienced Software Quality Assurance professional to ensure the quality and safety of state-of-the-art space flight and ground system software for present and upcoming NASA space science projects. This individual will take a leading role in defining and implementing a software Quality Assurance program that covers LASP science instruments, spacecraft, and systems that are used to test and operate spacecraft and the instruments they carry. This includes providing product and process quality assurance of:
Existing and new software incorporated into flight and ground systems.
Manual procedures to be followed by flight team members when conducting tests or carrying out specific operational activities.
Databases that hold information needed to carry out tests and operational activities.
Documentation regarding software development activities, operations and tests.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
Developing and implementing an effective and efficient Software Quality Assurance system for LASP that will meet requirements of NASA space flight programs.
Assisting with process development and quality assurance training.
Participating in software verification and validation processes.
Participating in peer reviews for requirements, design, code and test.
Presenting SQA status and plans at formal program reviews.
Working with developers to define test requirements.
Witnessing/monitoring tests.
Reviewing test results for completeness and acceptability.
Verifying approved requirements are satisfied through test or inspection.
Interfacing with NASA and other customers and contractors on SQA issues.
Tracking software issues to closure.
Supervising any students assisting with SQA efforts.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Required:
Good understanding of Quality Assurance and Quality Control principles and how they contribute to Software Development and Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes.
Knowledge of SQA concepts, best practices, and industry standards.
Knowledge of software development processes and testing.
Basic experience or knowledge in the following:
IE; Windows XP; Mac OS; UNIX; C; C++; SQL.
Ability to work as a motivated self-starter, with minimal supervision.
Ability to accurately estimate task durations and meet schedules.
Good organizational, time management and presentation skills.
Ability to accept personal accountability and ownership for areas of responsibility.
Ability to work well with team members to accomplish tasks on time and on budget.
Be analytical, methodical, logical and detail-oriented in completing all deliverables.
Ability to quickly adapt to changes.
Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently and follow through with them to completion.
Ability to communicate effectively and maintain a positive working relationship with peer departments and customers.
Preferred:
Understanding and experience using automated testing tools; reporting; load/regression testing tools; Active Directory, JavaScript, VB 6.0, Segue SilkPerformer, SQL, Database Concepts.
Knowledge of software safety and reliability methods/practices.
Strong PC skills including knowledge of MS Project, MS Word, MS Excel, Visio, MS Access.
Experience with hardware QA.
Education and Experience:
BS in Computer Science preferred with two (2) to three (3) years Software QA experience and/or three (3) to five (5) years of testing experience required, or equivalent education and experience to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
