Education & Public Outreach Manager

The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) of the University of Colorado at Boulder invites applications for the lead of Education and Public Outreach (EPO) at LASP.

LASP has developed a highly successful and nationally recognized EPO program emphasizing our research in atmospheric, planetary, solar and space sciences.  The successful candidate should have demonstrated leadership in the development and implementation of science-based education and public outreach activities.  Responsibilities will include development and implementation of EPO components for LASP’s existing research programs, as well as future opportunities; establishing and sustaining collaborative programs with other EPO programs (both locally and nationally); coordination of EPO activities by LASP personnel and their collaborators at other institutions; training of LASP personnel participating in EPO activities; and securing funding for EPO program development. Minimum requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or science education plus 10 years relevant experience or master’s or PhD degree plus 5 years relevant experience
  • Demonstrated ability to write proposals and secure funding for education and public outreach activities
  • Working knowledge of scientific methodology and terminology
  • Working knowledge of national education standards
  • Broad knowledge of Earth and Space Sciences
  • Demonstrated skill in written and oral communication with K-12 students, educators, and the public
  • Supervisory experience
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks

Desired (but not required) qualifications:

  • Experience working with NASA’s EPO programs
  • Demonstrated ability to establish collaborative partnerships with other institutions
  • Experience developing K-12 science curricula
  • Knowledge of Colorado education standards
