LASP's 2 Story, Class 10000 Clean Room

One of the most impressive features of LASP's new addition is the 2000 sq. ft. high-bay clean room suitable for building spacecraft. Up to now, LASP has only had the facilities to engineer small to medium sized science instruments; but, with the versatility of the new large class 10000 clean room, we have more engineering options open to us. This clean room is supported by a large control room, a vacuum chamber room for environmental testing, and an ante-room for "gowning" up, and a cleaning room. To enter the clean room, scientists and engineers must put on a clean room suit, booties, hair cap, hood, and face/beard mask that covers the body from head to toe.

Below is a list of some of the features of the new clean room:

  • Size: 2000 sq. ft. (Large enough to handle Pegasus class payloads)
  • Class: 10000
  • Support Rooms:
    • Control Room
    • Vacuum Chamber Room
    • Cleaning Room
    • Ante-room
  • ESD floor
  • 8 ft Aluminum wall side panels
  • Steel beam running the length of the room to hold a movable hoist
  • Humidity controlled
  • Processed chilled water unit for cooling equipment
  • Direct to earth grounding bus runs length of clean room and control room
  • 2 story rolling metal door
  • Large receiving area
  • Small portals between control room and clean room for electrical/computer cord access
  • Many windows and glass walls for outside viewing
