GLL UVS Instrument

GLL EUV Instrument

The Galileo ultraviolet spectrometer experiment consists of two instruments: the Ultraviolet Spectrometer (UVS), mounted on the pointed orbiter scan platform, and the Extreme Ultraviolet Spectrometer (EUV), mounted on the spinning part of the orbiter with the field of view perpendicular to the spin axis.

Primary objectives of the investigation are to understand physical processes occurring in: (1) the upper atmosphere of Jupiter; (2) the Io plasma torus; (3) the volatile gases escaping from Galilean satellites. (see Space Science Reviews 60:503-530, 1992)
