The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics at the University of Colorado is seeking a junior spacecraft systems engineer/operator to participate in the development and operations of state‐of‐the‐art space mission systems for present and upcoming NASA space science projects. LASP is one of the top space science research institutes in the country with facilities in Boulder, Colorado employing approximately 500 scientists, engineers, support personnel, and students. This individual will work closely with scientists, engineers and other space system mission operators in the development, operation, and maintenance of spacecraft mission operations. This person may also supervise one or more student assistants.
Supports mission operations concept development. Assists with the integration and functional test of the flight and ground segments. Conducts real time spacecraft/satellite/instrument flight operations during readiness, test and evaluation, and operational phases. Develops plans and procedures to provide maximum mission support in orbit dynamics, satellite performance analysis, and command and control of on‐orbit satellites and payloads. Provides technical direction for on orbit mission support, supports vehicle anomalies and recommends alternate operating techniques to continue maximum mission utilization. Provides technical analysis of the performance of the orbiting satellites and payloads. Utilizes system software to accomplish all spacecraft control tasks and recommends improvements. Analyzes and validates software performance to meet specific satellite mission requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, computer science, a physical science, or related field
- A minimum of three years of experience with spacecraft or space instrument operations
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple job tasks
- Ability to work within a team environment, but self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent communication skills
