Engineering Student Employment Opportunity

The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) is a world-renowned space science research institute at the University of Colorado, Boulder on east campus. The in-house engineering group supports the design and manufacture of space-based and suborbital instruments and small spacecraft for LASP and partner institutions. LASP has developed scientific instrumentation for twelve deep-space missions, fifteen Earth-orbiting missions, 200 sub-orbital rocket flights and over 20 airborne experiments.

Hourly Position Open Immediately – 1 Undergrad Aerospace Engineer

LASP is hiring an aerospace engineering student to assist with mission- and instrument-level systems engineering tasks such as data analysis, trade studies, technical resource (mass, power, data) management, requirements management, and documentation. Initial work will be in support of the TSIS-1 instrument suite which is currently in operation on the International Space Station and follow-on work will be with the follow-on TSIS-2 instrument suite, which is slated to fly in 2022 on a dedicated host spacecraft. Highly rated applicants will display a strong passion for learning about spacecraft and/or space-borne scientific instrument design, development, and flight. Satisfactory completion of ASEN 2004 or equivalent is required.

Minimum GPA – 3.0

  •  MATLAB or general software code development
  • Ability to combine knowledge of components to discover and solve system-level problems

Details

The position pays hourly. The time commitment is 40 hrs/wk over the summer and 10-20 hrs/wk during the school year.
