The Killer Whale, also known as the Orca, is a toothed whale that can be found in the Arctic Ocean as well as in the Antarctic regions. They are marine predators and eat most anything from fish to marine mammals (like seals and sea lions) as well as other types of whales. As the ice freezes over, the orcas rely on holes like this one kept open by warm ocean currents to use as breathing holes. They can even become trapped at breathing holes if the ice freezes to quickly and they can’t swim to open ocean without another stopping point to breathe.
