Space Craft Coordinates

Dipole approximation >5RJ from Jupiter: Tilted θd = 9.5° toward SysIII Wlong φd =201°.

Centrifugal Equator: <9 RJ ok to use 2/3 of dipole tilt, for >9 RJ the centrifugal equator moves toward the magnetic equator. For analytic approximation based on JRM09+CON2020 see Phipps & Bagenal 2021

JRM09 Dipole approximation – for close to Jupiter : moment M=4.170 G offset from rotation axis by  θd =10.31o toward SysIII Wlong  φd =196.61o.

Jupiter Coordinates – Version 12 – 20th Oct 2016 – this now has the JPL SPICE references for each of the 6 coordinate systems.  It is identical to version 11 except refers to the official SPICE frame kernel and tidied some figures.

Plot of Precession  (from Boris Semenov, JPL) this is the wobble of Jupiter’s spin axis over decades (1970-2030). And some relevant code & numbers. Probably not relevant for most MWG studies that rarely worry about micro radians.
