File: TORUS1:[GLL_RAW.INFO]HOW_TO_DO_GGGS_DESIGNS.DOC June 4, 1996 - Greg Rutz Observation Designs ------------------------------------------------------------------ To start GGGS, type "gggs" at any VAX prompt. (you must be on a graphical workstation to run GGGS) ---Starting Plot Sessions--- Under the "Session" menu choose "Start Design Session". Three fields must be completed in the session window: Start Time (Either UTC or SCLK) Delta Time Target Body Start Time --- This time will be given by whoever is requesting the design OR if you are designing from an OAPEL, the start time is given on the OAPEL form. Delta Time --- If you plan on animating the session, this will be the time between animation frames. If you plan on doing a single plot, this time is relatively unimportant. NOTE: Every time a Field Of View (FOV) is plotted the current plot time will increment by this delta time. Delta Time can be entered in Hour,Minute,Second format. For example, if you would like 1 hour, 24 minutes, and 10 seconds between frames, that value would be entered as: 1h24m10s Target Body --- From the menu below this field you can choose the body that you wish center your design on. NOTE: After entering the proper data into each field make sure that you press the key. Click on the "Go" button to plot the session. ---Plotting UVS Field of Views--- Most of the UVS observations are what we call "stares". This means that the scan platform is pointed at a certain area of the sky and the motion of the spacecraft causes the UVS FOV to drift across the sky. If you plot a FOV in this manner with GGGS, the animation will allow you to see how the UVS FOV moves across a body in time. To plot a UVS stare, choose "Stare" under the "Design Tools" menu. There are three different methods for plotting UVS stares: Mouse --- Place the mouse cursor somewhere on the current plot and click to place a FOV at that location. Cone/Clock --- A UVS FOV will be placed at the given Cone/Clock coordinates. Ra/Dec --- A UVS FOV will be placed at the given Ra/Dec coordinates. Lat/Long --- A UVS FOV will be placed at the given Latitude/Longitude coordinates on the targeted body. For any FOV on the current plot you can display information about that FOV by choosing "Display FOV Data" under the "Tools" menu. There is one additional field which must be completed before a FOV can be plotted. The "Time Duration" field must be filled in regardless of what method of "staring" you have chosen. If you are only producing a single plot, the Time Duration only needs to be greater than your Delta Time. If you are doing a GGGS animation, the number of animation frames will be: Time Duration ------------- + 1 Delta Time ---GGGS Animations--- To animate a GGGS session choose "Animate" from the "Tools" menu. The number of animation frames will be displayed. If you wish to save the animation to a postscript file so that it can be printed, enter a filename into the appropriate field (give the file a ".ps" extension). Choose "Done" under the menu called "Main". Each frame of the animation will be displayed as it is generated.
