The UVS data in this file were obtained using the original (=launch) UVS software modes. These are generally full-spectra modes for the Venus-Earth 1-Earth 2 mission phases (aka Phase 1). Check the commanded configuration in the flight sequence for the most accurate understanding of these data; no attempt has been made, in the raw EDRs, to verify the raw data acquired the commanded state. The instrument template describes reading the engineering data to verify configura- tions. Calibration to physical units has not been made; the data are in units of 'raw counts per integration time' where integration time is a command parameter. Each record begins with an 80-byte header containing 40 2-byte integer numbers. The header values are described below, the exact definition of the time values is further described in the Galileo document 625-610. The time tags given in the data records refer to the first integration period in the spectra of the record. The LABEL START and STOP time values refer to the first and last integrations of the full data set. The data start at byte 81, following the header information. Each record contains one full spectrum containing 546 2-byte integer values. The first 18 2-byte values are sync values (seven values of 255) followed by eleven engineering values. The 14 spectra per RIM are contained in consecutive records, with appropriate time tags. Engineering values 12,13,14 (F,N,G respectively) can be used to determine which detector High Voltage is ON for the spectrum in that record. If the value is greater than 100 DN then that detector is HV ON. The last spectrum of a RIM has one minor frame (84 2-byte values) missing at the end; there are 84 values of -1 in these locations. (A value of -1 anywhere in the record indicates that value was missing from the returned data stream.) The AACS (Attitude and Articulation Control Subsystem) values in the 14 words at the end of the record are pairs of Right Ascension and Declination (in degrees) derived from the AACS records received with the UVS data. There is one pair of values for each minor frame presented in the spectral data. Caution, each pair is actually for the NEXT minor frame than the data it is paired with. These are included for quick look analysis only, the true SPICE generated values should be used for final analysis. .........................................."
