These tapes have now been reformated into 9-track tapes that are readable with either Fortran programs or the IDL 'Associate' function. Each tape has been reformated into a disk file and then copied onto an archive tape containing a number of SEDR 'tapes'. A catalog of location of each tape is attached. In general, the tape contains the data for the Nadir pass (odd numbered orbit) followed by the data for the Zenith pass (even numbered orbit.) Each record is a direct access record containing 91 4-byte words. IDL would read this with an 'Associate(unit,FLTARR(91))' statement. The contents are exactly what JPL supplied, just reformated into floating point values from their 'card image' character values. There are also a few string values within the record. Strings have been converted to ASCII characters and packed four per word. Appendix B provides the JPL supplied definitions of the geometry parameters. The parameter names given below were supplied with the original documentation. Karen Simmons June 17, 1986 The files are now written in IEEE floating point XDR compatible sequential record format. These notes relate those parameter names to these SEDR parameter names. QUALITY It has been noticed in early re-analysis of the data products that later records in some SEDR products may have become garbled. The source of the problem is not known. The 9-track tapes were read to optical disks in 1986. When uncovered, some files were recovered by re-reading the original 9-track tapes. Some were not recoverable due to parity errors. ............................................................"
