I will review work looking at both the statistical connections and underlying dynamical mechanisms for solar forcing of climate on decadal-through-multicentennial timescales. I will focus on apparent spatial patterns of response of the climate to solar forcing, and the role of dynamical mechanisms related to the El Niño/Southern Oscillation ("ENSO") and the "North Atlantic Oscillation" (NAO) or "Arctic Oscillation" (AO) in this response. Particular attention will be paid to the role of dynamical responses to solar forcing in interpreting the climate record of the past 1000 years.
