DE/EICS Observations in the Polar Cap


It is now well established that most of the upflowing ions observed in the polar cap originate on the day-side at mid-altitudes (i.e. above ~1,000 km). However upflowing ion streams can also arize from sun-aligned arcs and the less common theta aurora..
