DE/EICS Observations in the Polar Cap
- Several of the papers below describe in detail the
ion plasma environment associated with the
Theta Aurora.
- Most of the papers listed below describe aspects of the
creation and evolution
of upflowing low (10-100 eV/e) streams of ions in the polar cap.
It is now well established that most of the upflowing ions observed
in the polar cap originate on the day-side at mid-altitudes (i.e. above
~1,000 km).
However upflowing ion streams can also arize from sun-aligned arcs
and the less common theta aurora..
