CCSDYDNM000200NSSD0018SMRK0001 TEXT_DESCRIBING_THE_INDEX_FILE.TXT Documentation on the EICS SATF INDEX (CATALOG) including information about the summary data quality flags. November 1994, W.K. Peterson The listing of intervals for which EICS stand alone telemetry files are available is given in the file : ftp://sierra.space.lockheed.com/pub/DATA/de/eicsdata.lis There are several thousand EICS stand alone telemetry files listed in this file in year-day order, one line for each stand alone telemetry interval. The file is updated as new intervals are processed and the latest version is written to the optical disk volume when the disk is closed. Therefore always use the index on the latest disk in your possession. Since the files weren't originally processed in chronologic order, using the most recent disk's index is important. The start and stop times of the data included in each interval are indicated in hours and minutes ( fields 4 and 5 ) and milliseconds of the day ( fields 6 and 7). Some entries in file eicsdata.lis processed mostly about July 1986 for data acquired on days 258 through 263 of 1981 appear below. More specifically, for the first entry, one sees that telemetry starting at 05:39 and ending at 06:01 has been converted into a stand alone telemetry format file. For example, if the data desired is from day 260 of 1981, then search eicsdata.lis for file C81260x where x here refers to the suffix added to distingusish different data from the same day. In the example above are nine lines with information about the data available for day 260 of 1981. If more of the telemetry acquired on this day is converted to the stand alone telemetry format the eicsdata.lis file will be updated on subsequent optical volumes. In addition to the start and stop times of an interval, each line of the file eicsdata.lis contains: the date the data were added to the EICS stand alone telemetry data base ( field 12); file name and location information ( fields 1,2 and 11); file size information (the approximate number of 8 second telemetry blocks in the file, field 3); and data quality indicators (fields 8,9,10) determined from the visual inspection of a summary slide made for each interval when it is added to the standalone telemetry data base. The data quality symbols used are '---', N, C, A, and : --- indicates that the data have not yet been inspected for quality. no symbol (ie. ) indicates that the data are in one of two standard modes (i.e. DRUM or FAST mode) and have been included in the EICS high resolution summary data base. N indicates that the data have NOT been included in our high resolution summary data base. Reasons for not including the data interval include, but are not limited to, instrument off, instrument mode other than DRUM or FAST, telemetry noise, duplicate file, or a short data interval. C indicates that the data in the lowest energy channel include a spurious count rate from the photoionization of residual neutral gases in the preacceleration region of the spectrometer as discussed by Shelley et al., Geophys. Res. Lett. 9, p942, 1982. A indicates that information about the orientation of the EICS sensor relative to the spacecraft velocity is not available. Pitch angle information is always available.
