ASTR/ATOC 3720 Links
The internet (and the worldwide web) originated as a way for
scientists to collaborate and exchange information rapidly
and efficiently. In recent years, use of virtual media by
the general public has increased at an extraordinary rate.
In response, science funding agencies around the world have
encouraged the use of the net for educational and public outreach
purposes; therefore, there are many extremely useful websites
geared towards science education.
I've gathered together below a list of links that may prove
useful, enlightening, and entertaining for ASTR/ATOC 3720 students.
I encourage you to use them as a starting point for an exploration
of planetary and atmospheric science on the web. I've tried to be somewhat
selective by posting only links that I have reviewed, but be forewarned
about not believing everything you read on the net, especially if you
don't really know about the source of the information or the developers
of the website. As the web has become an increasingly public medium
for the exchange of ideas, not everything you will find out there has
been refereed or validated. Hence, Vernor Vinge has called it "the net
of a million lies". Be a smart and a skeptical surfer!
