If your astronomy background is weak, I suggest an introductory text from a freshman-level course. Check the bookstore for possibilities or talk to me.

Evaluation

The course will have two closed book quizzes and a final exam. Questions will be short answer and essay drawn from the textbook, lectures and discussion. The final exam will be comprehensive, covering the entire course. A short paper (5 pages, typed, double-spaced, expanding on some one aspect of the course content) is due on the final day of class 11 December. Paper topics must be approved by me before 13 November.

Goals and expectations: Students are expected to attend lectures and read the textbook. Information from class will be tested on the quizzes and final. The paper should show critical and creative thinking.
