You can get research experience and course credit at the same time (but not $$$). Based on your prior classwork or your own interests, you may have an idea of a topic you'd like to explore further, either in library research or more hands-on projects. Chances are you're not going to get guidance in choosing a topic from the faculty memebrs...

Nick's tip: identify a topic of interest to you, and read up on it. Think up a reasonable semester-long learning goal, and run the idea past interested friends. Search the CU web pages and find a couple of faculty members whose research interests overlap with your idea. Arrange to meet with the faculty member, and make your proposal. If they can't help you, ask for recommendations.
