Personal Info

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Research Scientist at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics since 1989.
  • PhD in Chemistry in 1985 from U.C. Santa Cruz.
  • Post-doctoral work at Carnegie Mellon University.
  • Received various scholastic and research awards.
  • CoChair of NASA Langley Atmospheric Sciences Data Center Users' Working Group.
  • Member or prior member of numerous satellite science teams (AIM, POAM, ILAS-II, HIRDLS, SAGE-II, SOSST, ACE, HST).
  • Background includes laser spectroscopy of proteins and UV spectroscopy of comets.
  • Current work involves satellite remote sensing of the earth's atmosphere.
  • Interests

Primary interests include atmospheric chemistry and dynamics, with particular emphasis on the polar regions. Work is experimental in nature, relying on measurements of trace gas species and aerosols from remote sensing satellites. Areas of expertise include stratosphere/mesosphere coupling, polar stratospheric ozone loss, and validation and visualization of solar occultation data. Other interests include polar mesospheric clouds, stellar occultation techniques, and applications of polarized light.

    Projects

Polar Ozone and Aerosol Measurement (POAM)
Stratospheric Aerosol and Gas Experiment (SAGE)
    Halogen Occultation Experiment (HALOE)
    Improved Limb Atmospheric Spectrometer (ILAS-II)
    Atmospheric Chemistry Experiment (ACE)
High Resolution Dynamics Limb Sounder (HIRDLS)
Aeronomy of Ice in the Mesosphere (AIM)
Solar Occultation Satellite Science Team (SOSST)
