Accurately measure the solar spectral irradiance (Principal Investigator on sounding rockets, UARS, EOS, and TSIM and Co-Investigator on SME and TIMED). Special emphasis is given to solar variability on all time scales and to comparisons of the solar irradiance with the output of other late type stars. Past work has concentrated on the ultraviolet (l<300 nm) irradiance, but emphasis has now extended to the visible and near-infrared. Application of ultraviolet spectroscopy and the development of new instrumentation for remote sensing. |
