The two mosaics were made from the same 48 "frames" (16 frames in the red, 16 frames in the green, and 16 frames in the blue). The color differences arise from different processing techniques. The "enhanced color" was processed to enhance the more subtle color variations in the red and blue. The "true color" image was processed to give the viewer a feel for what they would see were they at Io themselves. These images were processed using the ISIS image processing package from the United States Geological Survey.
