Telecons/agendas:

Tues., April 20, 2015 11:00-noon Eastern (Toll Free 844-467-4685; Participant code 416667)

1. MMS Payload Status.  Please make necessary corrections.  Teams should feel free to add a link to a chart or two if desired.  This page is reflected at our Public MMS Science Website, and open to all.

2. SWT Planning

  •  Discussion of first papers -- special issue of GRL. There's always the possibility of a Science paper.
  • AGU approach  – Special Session for papers
  • What preparations are needed for interference campaign discussion
  • First look at TDNs, potential SITL selection methods, SITL school preparations

3. Quicklook plot formats (results from the SWT Spinter):

  • Quicklook plots will be available via SDC website.
  • Each Quicklook plot produced at 24, 12, 6, and 2 hour intervals.
  • See attached document for summary of quicklook plots for ASPOC, FPI, and FIELDS.
    • Currently 66 Quicklook plots defined at 19 time ranges (1254 plots/day total!)

4. Review status of MMS Science Web Site

  • include information on Data Policy and expectation for public data availability
    • To be added to information page as well as highlighted on Quicklook plots.
  • Working on automation of status updates, schedules, and events.

5. UPDATE:  L2 ephemeris/attitude products

a) The FDOA defeph files are still not up-to-date, but are at least flowing irregularly now. April 1-4 FDOA files are now available.

 b) Glitches in data are still unresolved.  (e.g. see MMS1_GLITCH1.png and MMS1_GLITCH2.png. Differences in the overlap region are on the order of several hundred km.

c) We are in the process of adding capability to use predeph files so that we can get a consistent predict L2 product flowing.

d) Testing schemes for smoothing quaternions.

6.  Reminder:  For the MMS Team:  How to get data from the SDC

FPI Status:  FPI continues its initial HV activities that are focused on verifying operational integrity and characterizing noise sources through the system.  The DES and DIS spectrometers are operated in pairs, moving systematically through the 16 quadrants of the combined set of observatories.  As of this morning we have completed five of the 16 quadrants. See  example DES results here.

7.  Reminder:   MMS launch shirts and patches.  Pat Reiff is having them modify the patch (which is also on the shirt) so that "Magnetospheric Multiscale" is in red and easier to read. Shirt is now also available in youth sizes.   Pat thanks all who have ordered... She's almost to the 24-shirt minimum but below the 24-patch minimum.

Tues., March 31, 2015 11:00-noon Eastern (Toll Free 844-467-4685; Participant code 416667)

Agenda (all should add to this as appropriate):

1. MMS Payload Status.  Please make necessary corrections.  Teams should feel free to add a link to a chart or two if desired.  The intent is that this page will be reflected at our Public MMS Science Website, and open to anyone.

2. Please be aware that there are at least two known "bugs" connected with this collaboration site; they are being worked and we ask your patience in the meantime.

  • If you are editing a page and choose to "cancel", you are directed to an "error" page and will need to use your bookmarks to return to your workspace
  • When you log-in you may be directed to a page you didn't anticipate or to an "error" page, again you will need to use your bookmarks to return to the place you intended to be.

  • The best way to avoid having problems when selecting links from the main page is to log in immediately, navigate back to the main page, and then proceed as you normally would.

3. Early results / data examples posted for discussion.

3. Review flow of L2 ephemeris/attitude products

a) Problem auto-pushing data to SDC. (Solved with changes to directory permissions).

b) The FDOA defeph files are not up-to-date. Several Missing days so far. Our processing creates daily files and we need 3 DEFEPH files at a time (today, yesterday, tomorrow) to fill out the whole day.

 c) With the defeph files that are there, there appear to be some issues. First and foremost is that where the different files overlap in time, the positions do not agree. Comparison of the two files MMS1_DEFEPH_2015074_2015075.V00 and MMS1_DEFEPH_2015073_2015074.V01 are shown in the following two plots:  MMS1_GLITCH1.png and MMS1_GLITCH2.png. Differences in the overlap region are on the order of several hundred km. Other regions of overlap show smaller differences (why don't  they match?)

4. Review status of MMS Science Web Site

  • include high-level MMS Status
  • include information on Data Policy and expectation for public data availability

5.  Reminder:  For the MMS Team:  How to get data from the SDC

6. Updates?:  Data Rights and Rules of the Road

7. Quicklook plot formats (results from the SWT Spinter):

8.  Last chance to order MMS launch shirts and patches.

3. Review status of MMS Science Web Site and preparations for data capture and release

a) An outline of the MMS SDC website is available for review and comment at: https://lasp.colorado.edu/galaxy/display/mms/MMS+SDC+Website+Outline

b) Access to ephemeris data, and other ancillary data, at the SDC is best done via our web services. Refer to the following document, MMS SDC Web Services

For example, to download all Predicted Ephemeris ancillary files, copy and past the following command into a new browser window:

https://lasp.colorado.edu/mms/sdc/sitl/files/api/v1/download/ancillary?product=predeph
