2003 Media/Journalist Workshop

Mars exploration and the potential for life elsewhere

Dec. 13 & 14, 2003—Boulder, Colorado

Mars Exploration Rover Spirit on Mars

The 2003 workshop focused on NASA's Mars Exploration Program, a long-term effort of robotic exploration of the red planet. Primary among the program's scientific goals is to search for and characterize a wide range of rocks and soils that hold clues to past water activity on Mars. (Courtesy NASA/JPL)

CU’s Center for Astrobiology and Center for Environmental Journalism, in conjunction with LASP, held one of NASA’s first professional development workshops for journalists. The goal was to bring science journalists from across the country together with Mars scientists and Mars Exploration Rover (MER) mission specialists to explore Astrobiology in the context of the January Mars landings.
