Current Update

Both of our MAVEN New Media Practitioners Professional Development workshops have been completed as planned. The presentations from the 2015 workshop are posted below. All of the presentations and details about the 2013 workshop can be found here.

About the Workshop
The 2015 NMPD workshop brought bloggers, podcasters, social media users, and other science communicators to UCB/SSL for a two-day intensive workshop with space scientists.

The workshop offered a collaborative professional development opportunity for attendees to learn about current issues surrounding the evolution of the Martian climate, with an emphasis on the latest data and discoveries returned from the MAVEN spacecraft, as told through lectures and interaction with MAVEN scientists and experts.

Workshop Themes

  • Mars atmospheric escape to space today
  • MAVEN results and the evolution of the Martian climate/past habitability
  • Observations from the first deep-dip campaigns
  • Isotopes in the Martian atmosphere
  • Connections between MAVEN, MSL, and future Mars exploration

Speakers

  • Dr. Bruce Jakosky: Principal Investigator for MAVEN; Associate Director for Science, LASP;
  • Dr. David Brain: Assistant Professor, LASP/CU-Boulder APS; MAVEN Science Team Co-Investigator
  • Dr. Paul Mahaffy: Planetary Scientist, NASA Goddard; Instrument lead for MAVEN-NGIMS and Mars Science Laboratory-SAM
  • Dr. Dave Mitchell: Assistant Research Physicist, Space Sciences Laboratory, UC-Berkeley; Instrument lead for MAVEN SWEA
  • Dr. Pamela Gay: Assistant Research Professor, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville; Astronomer, writer, and podcaster; host of Astronomy Cast and director of CosmoQuest
