Biography

Dr. Gan is a research scientist in LASP at CU Boulder, who has been a team member on NASA's GOLD mission since 2019. His research interests primarily include atmospheric wave dynamics in the middle and upper atmosphere, coupling of the atmosphere-ionosphere (A-I) system, the Ionosphere-Thermosphere (I-T) system responses to geomagnetic storms, and long-term changes of the middle and upper atmosphere. He has extensive experience in satellite data analysis (LEO and GEO) and simulations with state-of-the-art community models. He has been dedicated to studying global wave dynamics (e.g., Rossby waves, tides, and Kelvin waves) and the considerable effects on the space weather of the I-T system.

Current projects:

1) Exploring day-to-day variability of the ionosphere-thermosphere system driven by planetary wave-tide interactions (NASA)

2) Annual and semi-annual variations of thermosphere composition (NASA)

3) Global-scale Observations of the Limb and Disk (NASA)
