The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) and the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) have a long history of collaboration that far predates the development of the Sun-Climate Research Center (SCRC). LASP and GSFC collaborations have spanned programs in space missions, instrumentation, airborne science field campaigns, and rocket launches. The degree of collaborative efforts are also wide ranging from program management, science, engineering, and mission operations.
Satellite Missions
Collaborations in space missions began in the mid 1960’s with the Orbiting Geophysical Observatory (OGO-2), through the present with the current operation of the SOlar Radiation and Climate Experiment (SORCE), and with plans well into the future such as the projected launch of the Solar Probe Plus (SPP) in 2018.
LASP and GSFC have collaborated on space missions and instruments since the 1960’s. These collaborations span program management, science, engineering, and mission operations.

Airborne Campaigns
The first collaboration in intensive field campaigns occurred in 1999 with the SAFE III Ozone Loss and Validation Experiment (SOLVE). Most recently, ongoing efforts are occurring for the Southeast Asia Composition, Cloud, Climate Coupling Regional Study (SEAC4RS) experiment to be held late summer 2012. The field campaigns have ground-based, airborne, and satellite instrumentation support.

Rocket Missions
Beginning in 2002, LASP and GSFC have collaborated with science efforts focused on sounding rocket programs that provide calibrations for orbiting instruments measuring the Sun. However, GSFC has provided engineering support for the LASP rocket program estimated back to the early 1970’s.
