Big Bear Solar Observatory

We will tour the New Jersey Institute of Technology’s Big Bear Solar Observatory (BBSO) on Wednesday afternoon, March 21.  Transportation will be provided to BBSO, about an hour away, for those wanting it.  This tour and transportation is included in your registration fee, but for planning purposes you will be asked to RSVP on your Registration Form (since space is limited).  If you plan to attend but prefer to drive your personal car, please make a note of this when you register.  Guests are welcome to participate in this tour.

We will tour the world’s highest resolution solar telescope, recently renamed the Goode Solar Telescope (GST) after Dr. Phil Goode who was instrumental in its design, construction, and realization.   Please note that all visitors must be able to walk 1000 feet down and back on a gravel road, as well as up and down three flights of stairs to access the telescope.  After visiting the observatory everyone will have an opportunity to visit the  BBSO Discovery Center (nature center and gift shop).  For more information, please visit their website: http://mountainsfoundation.org/programs/discovery-center.
