May 2021 Workshop

WAVE Online Community Workshop, 11 May 2021

0900-1200 Mountain Time

The NASA Heliophysics WAVE science center hosted a free, half-day, online workshop on 11 May 2021. The overall goal was to explore collaborative opportunities to improve our understanding of how waves from below impact variability in the ionosphere, thermosphere, and mesosphere (ITM). It was an interactive workshop attended by 95 scientists focused on the following questions:

Q1: What are the key gaps in our understanding of how waves from below impact the ITM, and of how wave impacts couple with external forcing from above?

Q2: What are the main deficiencies in state-of-the-art models in simulating the impacts of waves from below, and what is required to address those deficiencies?

Q3: What are the key measurements that are required to improve and verify the models?
