Flight Software Student Assistant

Job Summary:
The LASP Flight Software student assistant will join LASP’s Flight Software (FSW) team to support engineers in the development and test of embedded software. The student will work closely with FSW professionals on tailoring software for a specific program. This individual will be instrumental in writing and testing software to satisfy requirements. There will be opportunities to work hands on with prototype boards running embedded software, associated test equipment, and simulations. This opportunity provides the student with the opportunity to contribute to space flight missions for NASA and other customers. The minimum commitment is for one (1) year (two semesters and a summer), working part time (10-20 hours/week) while classes are in session and full-time (40 hours/week) during the summer. The hope is that the student will be able to continue to work beyond the first year. Many student assistants at LASP work beyond one year, and many have been hired on as full-time professional engineers after graduation
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Writing clean and efficient code
- Testing code thoroughly in simulation and/or hardware
- Debugging and troubleshooting issues
- Collaborating with other developers
- Adhering to coding standards and FSW processes
What We Require
- School Experience: Completed or currently enrolled in CSCI 2400 Computer Systems or ECEN 2360 Programming Digital Systems.
- GPA: 2.5 or higher
- Able to work 10-20 hours/week during school year, work up to 40 hours/week during Summer
- Able to commit for a minimum of one year (two semesters and a Summer)
What We’d Like You to Have
- Interested in Embedded Software
- Knowledge of Data Structures
- Basic familiarity with hardware/software interactions
- Familiarity with Digital Logic and FPGAs
- Awareness of Software Development Methods and Tools
What You Will Need
- Experience with C/C++ and Python
- Knowledge of software design, development, and test
- Ability to debug code
- Good written and communication skills
- Good attention to detail
- Ability to work responsibly and reliably with minimal supervision
What You Should Know

- Onsite presence is required partially or fully. Located on Boulder’s east campus.
- This position is only open to current CU Boulder undergraduate students.
Hourly Range: $17.50-$26.00
