IT DevOps Student Assistant

We are seeking motivated undergraduate research assistants to join our team of professional system administrators and platform engineers. In this role, you will be assisting in developing and managing the platforms that are responsible for mission critical systems for LASP. You will be working alongside professionals in this field who will guide you as you gain career building experience.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Participate in team meetings around topics of discussion including technology decisions, code reviews, and roadmap planning.
  • Learn the principles of the DevOps philosophy, understand how they can increase team efficiency, and apply these principles to your contributions to the team.
  • Learn to manage Linux operating systems, including patching, upgrading, and perform basic troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to our configuration management code base with Ansible.
  • Participate in developing infrastructure as code with Terraform.
  • Work on security initiatives including monitoring and logging.
  • Contribute to containerization efforts and container orchestration platforms.
  • Develop an understanding of cloud computing and participate in cloud platform development.
  • As an undergraduate research assistant, you will have the opportunity to further focus on a selection learning paths we provide to gain in depth real-world experience in that field of interest. These paths include but are not limited to the key responsibilities for this position.

What We’d Like You to Have

  • Understanding of the concepts of software engineering, network engineering, or database implementation.
  • Experience with any Linux distribution.
  • Experience with Python or shell scripting and other dynamic scripting languages.
  • Ability to learn quickly and take on new tasks.
  • Resourcefulness to multi-task current projects and be flexible in assignments.
  • Have excellent time management, organizational and team skills.
  • Ability to maintain a mindset of continuous improvement and optimization.

 

What You Should Know

  • This position has a flexible onsite presence requirement with onsite preferred.

What You Will Need

  • Proficiency in general computing skills.
  • An understanding of the principles of software development pipelines.
  • A general familiarity with the Linux operating system and basic services.
  • Troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and repair code or system issues.

Pay Rate

$17.50-26.00/hr
