Network Support Technician

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for daily network administration tasks in engineering labs/offices and spacecraft flight operations mission critical facilities. The ideal candidate must be able and willing to work with research scientists, engineers and flight operations personnel.
 

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be:

  • Maintenance of network port database
  • Ethernet port activation and troubleshooting
  • Basic network troubleshooting in Linux, Windows and Mac environments
  • Racking and configuring network equipment and servers
  • Providing tier 1 network support to users via a Jira ticketing system
  • Basic Linux systems administration
  • Basic system firewall configuration

 

What We’d Like You to Have:

  • Cisco network administration experience
  • HPC computing experience
  • Experience with Linux
  • Experience troubleshooting Mac, Windows, and Linux network connectivity issues
  • Familiarity with Ansible, Grafana, MS Office applications, AWS and Terraform

 

What You Should Know:

  • This position is an on-site, and in person position working in a restricted facility.
  • Candidate will be subjected to a background check to enable working in restricted areas. 
  • Must have the ability to work 20 hours during the week during the semester and potentially up to 40 hours a week during holidays and summers.
  • Due to requirements to access export-controlled data and information, only U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents (green card holders), or other protected individuals (i.e., persons designated as an asylee, refugee, or temporary resident under amnesty provisions) may apply.
  • Must be capable of lifting 50lbs and communicating clearly in a professional setting.
     

What You Will Need:

  • Prior network administration experience in a Cisco environment is preferred but not required. Familiarity with Linux, Windows or Mac environments. Familiarity with a programming language (Python, C…)
  • Ability to work on a team or as an individual
  • Ability to absorb and understand large sums of information rapidly
  • Familiarity with Linux, Windows & Mac operating systems
  • Basic ability to program in Python
  • Basic understanding of IP addresses and sub-netting
  • Conceptual understanding of routing, DNS, and network OSI model.
