Command & Control

Software tailored to each mission's requirements

The instruments and spacecraft operated from LASP’s mission operations center require specialized operational software, which needs to be tailored to each mission or instrument to help ensure successful data capture once it’s in flight.

The command-and-control software that runs each mission is akin to a brain. It ensures that temperature, power levels, and other parameters on the spacecraft or instrument are running within an acceptable range and continually monitors the health of all on-board systems.

During a mission, the software must be able to accommodate changes to its existing logic. This flexibility allows software patches or complete reloads to address instrument or operational changes that may occur during the mission.

If the software detects anything that’s unusual, it alerts mission operators so that they can look into the potential causes of the anomaly—and develop solutions.
