LASP Strategic Pillars

LASP’s 2024-2034 plan encompasses four strategic pillars that reflect core laboratory focus and priority areas:

Goal 1:

Lead scientific discovery​

This goal creates a scaffolding for scientific success for projects of all sizes and focus areas, through both lab-wide programs and focused proposal support. LASP’s strengths lie in the diversity of our expertise and are best leveraged by cultivating an environment that supports experimentation, creative thinking, and collaboration. Through representative and responsive strategic planning, engagement with the worldwide scientific community, and investment in all stages of idea development, we can work together to push the boundaries of scientific discovery and create the future of space science.

Goal 2:

Elevate LASP’s visibility​

This goal is focused on broadcasting LASP’s achievements and capabilities. Through consistent branding and messaging, we can create heightened awareness and recognition of our strategic focuses and accomplishments.

Goal 3:

Diversify and expand funding sources

We need to diversify our funding sources and partnerships to accomplish our strategic goals, mitigate risk, and continue to improve the lab. New partnerships will open pathways to innovation, as well as untapped sponsors and markets.

Goal 4:

Invest in lab infrastructure

This goal focuses on identifying and deploying resources to fund and maintain the key infrastructure elements and items needed to achieve all goals in this strategic plan. It also enhances communications regarding how these resources are being used

Goal 5:

Foster healthy and sustainable Institutional Research & Development

Here we focus on increasing Institutional Research & Development (IRD) funding and aligning its allocation with the overall strategic plan to support LASP’s science and technology pipeline and goals.

These goals focus on ensuring that LASP optimizes its structure and invests in its most valuable resource, our people.

Goal 6:

Optimize organizational structure

We must review and adapt our organizational structure to determine if the needs of the lab are being effectively served and to support priorities in the face of growth and change. If we work together and embrace organizational change, we can enhance our lab’s effectiveness and capabilities.

Invest in our people

As LASP continues to grow, investment in our lab members will ensure that our employees feel supported to achieve their professional and personal goals. With intention, we can continue to build a community of innovation and fulfill our longstanding commitment to education.

Champion an inclusive culture

To ensure that LASPians can do their best work to meet our mission, we need to ensure that everyone can bring their whole authentic selves to work. To achieve this, DEIA efforts must be integrated into everything we do, including throughout this plan, and involve the active investment of lab leadership in culture building and embracing transformational institutional change.
