Biography

Gavin is a Software Engineer IV on the MODS/Data Systems/Science Data Processing team. He has an academic background in mechanical engineering and applied mathematics/statistics. He earned his MSc in applied mathematics in 2016 with a focus on mechanical engineering topics and a minor in evolutionary biology. His masters thesis is titled "Detection and Characterization of Ice Surface Elevation Profiles from Micropulse Photon-Counting LiDAR Data". Previously, Gavin worked for UNAVCO Inc. (historically the University NavStar Consortium) maintaining a GNSS data download system and associated metadata database. At LASP, Gavin's focus is software engineering of back end data processing systems and algorithms. He is the technical lead on the Libera Science Data Center (SDC) and the Libera I&T Data Center. He previously worked on the development of the Emirates Mission to Mars Ultraviolet Spectrograph (EMM-EMUS) science data processing pipeline. He works primarily in Python and is fluent in full stack and cloud development principles from database administration, through REST API specification, front end development concepts, and the principles of modern devops. His strengths lie in software design and implementation of back end services such as science data processing pipelines.
