Tom has 15+ years working in the Space Industry. He spent 5 years at NASA's Johnson Space Center as an EVA S&MA flight lead and systems engineer. At Johnson, Tom was S&MA EVA Flight Lead for 5 Space Shuttle missions (including HST-SM4) and oversaw more than 30 US and RS EVA sorties. For the last 10 years, Tom has been a LASP Professional Research Assistant at CU-Boulder. He started as the Operations Lead for the TCTE-TIM payload and Systems Safety Engineer on the TSIS-1 instrument suite now on the International Space Station. Presently, Tom is the Lead Flight Safety Engineer for the CLARREO payload and the Project Manager of the TSIS-1 payload. Tom completed his undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering from Penn State University where he also completed a minor in Astrophysics and competed as a member of the Penn State Men's Rugby XVs. After undergraduate, Tom completed his Master's Degree in Physics at the University of Houston - Clear Lake with a focus on high-energy transient phenomena, specifically Gamma-ray Bursts and their afterglows.
