POLAR TIMAS
*****MRDF_E******
SUMMARY PLOTS
These plots provide overviews of TIMAS data acquired on all apogee passes and a few perigee passes.
For each MRDF_E plot there is a complimentary MRDF_P plot showing angular distributions obtained by integration over an indicated
energy range
- The three color panels show the omnidirectional number flux for H+, O+, and He++.
- The Averaging interval (indicated at the bottom left of the plot) is typically 8 spins (48 seconds).
- The number flux for each energy and time is encoded using the color bar on the right.
- For data acquired after the high voltage breakdown event (December 8, 1998), Data below ~700 eV
are NOT VALID because the instrumental response below 700 eV became extremely non-linear after a
high voltage discharge event.
- The line plot below the third color panel displays information about the magnetic field from the
Polar Magnetometer instrument data
- If the label on the left is BzFA then the line plot displays the total magnetic field measured at Polar in
units of nano Tesla indicated by the scale on the left.
- If the label on the left is NOT BzFA then the line plot is a display of one of the components of the measured
magnetic field in one of several coordinate systems.
- Information about the orbit in tabular format at the bottom includes
- UT: Universal time in hours:minutes
- R: Geocentric distance of Polar in units of Earth radii
- L: McIlwain L parameter at the location of Polar
- EDMLT: Eccentric Dipole Magnetic Local Time at the location of Polar in hh:mm format
- MAGLAT: Geomagnetic Latitude at the location of Polar in degrees.
- INVLAT: Invariant Latitude at the location of Polar in degrees.
- LT: Local lime in HH:MM format at the Polar location.
