POLAR TIMAS
*****MRDF_P******
SUMMARY PLOTS
These plots provide overviews of TIMAS data acquired on all apogee passes and a few perigee passes.
For each MRDF_P plot there is a complimentary MRDF_E plot showing
omnidirectional energy distributions.
- The four color panels show two-dimensional cuts of the 3-dimensional distributions of H+, O+, He+ and He++.
- The energy range over which the data have been integrated is displayed at the bottom of the plot. It is
typically 0.9 to 25 keV/e. Some data plots however, were made using alternative energy ranges.
- The coordinate system in which the 2-d cut is made is indicated by the subscripts of the H, O, He
labels. Most plots have been made using the FA/(Field aligned) coordinate system. The X cut in FA
cordinates is made in the plane defined by the magnetic field direction and the spacecraft defined X axis.
- The temporal averaging interval (indicated at the bottom left of the plot) is typically
8 spins (48 seconds) for high altitude intervals and 4 spins (24 seconds) for intervals that include
perigee.
- The number flux for each energy and time is encoded using the color bar on the right.
- Information about the orbit in tabular format at the bottom includes
- UT: Universal time in hours:minutes
- R: Geocentric distance of Polar in units of Earth radii
- L: McIlwain L parameter at the location of Polar
- EDMLT: Eccentric Dipole Magnetic Local Time at the location of Polar in hh:mm format
- MAGLAT: Geomagnetic Latitude at the location of Polar in degrees.
- INVLAT: Invariant Latitude at the location of Polar in degrees.
- LT: Local Time in HH:MM format at the Polar location.
