DE/EICS Ion Outflow results

DE/EICS Comprehensive quantitative measurements of the average flux, energy, and composition of outflowing ionospheric ions as a function of solar cycle and magnetic activity.

This chart shows the relative geogenic (of Earth origin) content of the hot plasmas in the Earth's plasma sheet as a function the geomagnetic auroral activity (AE) index for two levels of solar activity (F10.7 radio flux). The relative geogenic and helogenic (of solar wind origin) fractions are derived from a simple model combining the DE/EICS ionospheric outflow composition measurements (see above) and plasma sheet composition measurements from ISEE -1 (Lennartsson and Shelley, 1986).
