Software

MMS is a complex mission spanning over one hundred individual detectors on four spacecraft. Data from the mission will be distributed in common data format (CDF), and when there is a need for unique analysis software, it will be available on this page. We also provide links to software that can be used to read and plot MMS data, though not developed specifically for the MMS mission.

Furthermore, as MMS scientists develop code that would be of use to the wider MMS science community, that software can be shared via this page.

Readers and Plotters
Since MMS data is being created to be compliant with the CDF-3.6 format a variety of community routines exist which may be used to quickly and easily read and plot the data. The SDC recommends either of these routines for those interested in viewing MMS data.

SPEDAS

For users who are familiar with IDL, we suggest the powerful SPEDAS/TDAS software package.. This extensive set of routines will be familiar to some as tplot but has been expanded with additional resources. Those familiar with tplot may be interested in the CDF readers and plotting options included in this package.

Tutorials

An introductory video is available with instructions on how to download, install, and use the SPEDAS software package.

Autoplot

Autoplot is an interactive tool that can read MMS CDF data files either from a local repository or via direct URL. It provides interactive plotting and browsing of both data and metadata.
Community Codebase
As MMS team scientists develop code that may be of interest or use to the wider community, it will be made available through this website. All such code is provided as-is and is not officially supported by the MMS SDC, but every effort will be made to provide useful tools.
