POLAR TIMAS

SUMMARY PLOTS
Information about operating voltages and temperatures. The so-called housekeeping
information transmitted to monitor instrument health and safety.
See the detailed instrument description for more details about specific systems
discussed below.
Plot description
- Top (small) panel)
- Large X indicates time of mode (ICP) change. Modes are indicated by an ICP number that
is seen just above the ephemeris information on flx, flux_survey_A, ms, and
cts plots. TIMAS modes are described ICP Table # here.
- A solid, heavy, orange line in the panel indicates TIMAS was operating in the "Reduced
Energy Mode, where the maximum energy ion sampled was ~25 keV.
- Second Panel, first one labeled HV Volts on the left.
- Red line labeled DET1_HV on the right is the voltage appled to detector 1 (Head A)
- Green line labeld EA1_MVF on the right is the voltage applied to the Head A
electrostatic analyzer section. This voltage sweeps to select the energy sampled by TIMAS
and so shows up as a band in this display.
- Blue line labeled PA1_VF on the right is the voltage applied to the preacceleration
section of the analyzer in front of the detector. This voltage is applied between the
locations noted C1 and S1 in the schematic
cross section of the TIMAS ion optics.
- Black line labeled MCP_REF on the right is the voltage applied to the detector.
- Third Panel, second one labeled HV Volts on the left.
- Red line labeled DET2_HV on the right is the voltage appled to detector 2 (Head B)
- Green line labeled EA2_MVF on the right is the voltage applied to the Head B
electrostatic analyzer section. This voltage sweeps to select the energy sampled by TIMAS
which shows up as a band in this display.
- Blue line labeled PA2_VF on the right is the voltage applied to the preacceleration
section of the analyzer in front of the detector. This voltage is applied between the
locations noted C1 and S1 in the schematic
cross section of the TIMAS ion optics.
- Black line labeled MCP_REF on the right is the voltage applied to the detector.
- See the full instrument description and
the electronic layout for more
information about how the two detector sections of the instrument are electrically
configured.
- Fourth Panel, first one labeled Vf Volts on the left.
These are the levels sent by fiber optics to the isolated HV supplies driving one of the electrostatic analyzers (#1).
- Red line labeled EA1_PVF - Voltage to the Positive side of the elecrostatic analyzer
- Green line labeled EA1_MVF - Voltage to the Negative side of the electrostatic analyzer
- Blue line labeled PA1_VF - Voltage to the Pre Acceleration element at the output of the electrostatic analyzer
- Black line labeled ANODE_VF - Voltage to the Floating detector anode.
- Fifth Panel, second one labeled Vf Volts on the left
These are the levels sent by fiber optics to the isolated HV supplies driving one of the electrostatic analyzers (#2)
- Red line labeled EA2_PVF - Voltage to the Positive side of the elecrostatic analyzer
- Green line labeled EA2_MVF - Voltage to the Negative side of the electrostatic analyzer
- Blue line labeled PA2_VF - Voltage to the Pre Acceleration element at the output of the electrostatic analyzer
- Sixth Panel, labeled Current mA on the left.
- Red line labeled PA_IMON - Current drawn by the analyzer power supplies
- Orange line labeled DET2_I - Current drawn by Detector 2
- Green line labeled DET1_I - Current drawn by Detector 1
- Light Blue line labeled INPUT_I - Current drawn by TIMAS
- Dark Blue line labeled VAC_IMON - Current drawn by the internal power conversion hardware.
- Seventh Panel, labeled Supplies Volts
- Red line labeled VBIAS - the 28 V supply to the instrument
- Green line labeled MON_P5V - the 5V supply to the instrument
- Blue line labeled MONP15V - the 15V supply to the instrument
- Eighth Panel, labeled Temp (oC) - See Figure 1 and
Instrument Description
- RED line labeled TEMP_PA - temperature near the pre-acceleration region (C1, and S1 in Figure 1)
- ORANGE line labeled TEMP_PS - temperature near the instrumental power supplies.
- Yellow ine labeld TEMPEA1 - tempurature in the electrostatic analyzer region (section 1)
- Green line labeled TEMPEA2 - temperature in the electrostatic analyzer region (section 2)
- Blue/Green line labeled TEMP_IC - temperature at the spacecraft/timas interface control point (from spacecraft house keeping TM
stream )
- Light Blue line labeled TEMPSEN - temperature near the mcp detectors (from the spacecraft house keeping TM stream)
- Dark Blue line labeled TEMP_UP - temperature near the instrument
micro processors
- Purple line labeled TEMP_ME is monitor of the tempeature near in the electronics
box.
- Universal Time (UT) of day is given at the bottom of the plot
