MILAGRO

The Megacity Initiative: Local and Global Research Observations (MILAGRO) field campaign was conducted between 1-30 March, 2006 in the vicinity of Mexico City to study air pollution from megacities (cities with populations greater than 10 million). The experiment objectives were to determine how pollution aerosol is re-distributed, how it evolves, how it is removed downwind from source regions, and how it impacts the environment on scales ranging from local to global.  Lessons learned from this campaign in Mexico City, with a population greater than 21 million and the pollution to accompany it, can be applied to developing cities in Asia where today’s biggest growth is occurring.

MILAGRO was composed of 4 simultaneous measurement campaigns :

MCMA-2006 (The Mexico City Metropolitan Area 2006 Experiment)

MAX-Mex (The Megacity Aerosol Experiment- Mexico)

INTEX-B (Intercontinental Chemical Transport Experiment-B)
