GIGI-Next

GIGI-Next

We are pleased to announce the GOLD-ICON Guest Investigator (GIGI)-Next Workshop that will be held in Boulder Colorado September 10-12, 2024. GIGI-Next will be an in-person 3-day workshop that brings together NASA’s GIGI program team members as well as members of the science community who are working with GOLD and ICON data. GIGI-Next is an opportunity to present your research, network with early career scientists, brainstorm what’s next in terms of Decadal Survey science, next-generation observations, analysis tools, and models, and nurture the next generation of Heliophysicists.

A hybrid option will be available for most sessions. Travel grants will be awarded to up to 15 students and early career researchers (within 5 years of PhD). This event is sponsored by NASA TWSC, so there will be no registration fees. Please see the preliminary agenda that indicates GIGI team science talks on day 1, science talks from the broader community using GOLD and ICON data and a poster session on day 2, and plenary discussions on the future of heliophysics on day 3.

We are currently accepting abstracts for any data analysis or model study that employs GOLD and/or ICON satellite data or outlines studies with future missions, such as:

  • Wave and tide studies
  • Night-time ionosphere studies
  • Thermospheric circulation studies
  • Extreme event studies (SSWs, eclipse, eruptions, etc)
  • Calibration/Validation studies of GOLD/ICON and other instruments & lessons learned
  • Model evaluation using GOLD and ICON data
  • Data assimilation of GOLD and ICON data
  • OSSEs
  • Forward-looking studies (next-gen models, instruments, methods, etc)

If you have specific questions about workshop, or to request travel funding support, please contact Lynn Harvey by email: lynn.harvey@lasp.colorado.edu.

Abstract submission is now open.

Registration open through August 1, 2024
