Biography
Vikas's research interests lie at the intersection of remote sensing and machine learning. Part of Sebastian Schmidt's AIRS (Atmospheric Imaging, Radiation & Remote Sensing) group, Vikas works on novel approaches to improve satellite retrievals of surface and cloud variables. His research is centered around combining spaceborne, airborne, and ground measurements with modeling to provide a complete picture of the climate system. Some of his recent and current works include surface characterization of Arctic sea ice from satellites with validation from aircraft field campaigns, development of a U-Net for cloud optical thickness retrievals from simulated and airborne imagery, and Arctic cloud masking.
